About

Ruth Bashinsky has been a journalist for more than 20 years.

For more than a decade, she worked as a general assignment reporter-staff writer for the New York Daily News covering a variety of beats including, news-breaking news, television, fashion, entertainment, pets, lifestyle, and the Russian community in Queens.

Described by her peers as DYNAMIC, driven, CREATIVE, persistent, RESOURCEFUL and obsessed, Ruth has done some outrageous things to get the "inside scoop."

She has crashed several celebrity weddings (Liza Minelli-David Gest; Ellen Barkin-Ron Perelman; Catherine Zeta-Jones-Michael Douglas). She snuck into countless hospitals and emergency rooms (and, in some cases, was escorted out). She dropped by the home of a prominent diplomat's secretary and convinced a group of Daily News readers to road test a series of videos to improve their sex lives. She once crossed to the other side when she landed an exclusive interview with a woman who was involved in a terrorist attack and allegedly came back from the dead. She visited Babe Ruth's gravesite with a psychic. And, she spent the day with a group of female inmates who were all serving 25 years to life in prison!

Some of the biggest stories she has reported on include the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Ruth was part of the news team working on daily pre and post coverage. Other major news stories include: EgyptAir Flight 990, Irene Silverman: The Missing Millionaires, Doomed Flight 587, and the Clinton/Lewinsky Scandal.

Ruth was also a major contributor for some of the special reports the paper had. Her idea to do an investigation into the thriving Egg Donor Market was one of the paper's most popular series. Another innovative idea she executed was when she arranged for a tween reader to report on NYC Fashion Week for the women's/lifestyle section.

Other publications she has worked at include the New York Times, Newsday, Long Island Press, and The Boulevard Magazine.

Most recently, Ruth was part of the multimedia team at Cybercrime Magazine. In her role as senior editor, she interviewed Chief Information Security Officers and Chief Information Officers at Fortune 500 companies; hosted a podcast and did some unique field reporting revolving around cybersecurity awareness.

When Ruth is not chasing her next story, she is chasing after her two dogs - Oliver (Greater Swiss Mountain Dog) and Buck (TeddyPoo). She has appeared on television and radio. And, has written for Marie Claire, Self,Parenting, Animal Fair, New York Real Estate Journal, and DogTV.com.
